Why You Should Introduce Bison Into Your Diet
When you’re thinking about healthy protein sources, Bison might not be the first thing to pop into your head. But rethink that decision. Bison meat is lean, nutritious, and delicious. It’s a darker red meat, like beef, but with much less fat. Give turkey a rest, and try lean bison meat. It’s less caloric than beef, but you don’t compromise on protein levels. If you’re trying to avoid hormones and additives, bison are usually grass fed and they aren’t pumped with antibiotics. Bison meat is high in iron and omega-3 fatty acids. Iron is especially important for women, even more so if you’re active. If a recipe calls for beef, try using bison instead. It’s becoming more readily available, so you should be able to get it at your local health food or specialty grocery store.
